BT software-defined network puts FCA on the road to a smart future

New agile connectivity to underpin global automotive leader’s data-driven smart transformation.

BT today announced it is to deploy new software defined wide area network (SD-WAN) for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) in Europe.

The new SD-WAN will provide the automotive firm with an agile network optimised for the cloud. It will help FCA accelerate innovation by providing more choice and control over how the network is managed. This will allow the company to create the optimal user experience for people, devices and machines in 95 sites including 11 manufacturing plants, as they access corporate applications and data.

The cost-effective and agile solution will be deployed over the top of a hybrid infrastructure offering the company a choice of connectivity tailored for each application, such as the Internet for low-priority purposes like web browsing or BT’s global MPLS network for sensitive data and critical applications.

Joris van Oers, managing director, resources, manufacturing and logistics & Europe, BT, said: “Our consultants worked closely with FCA’s IT team to help it choose a connectivity solution to meet the needs of its business. They created a roadmap and business case, drawing on their deep SD-WAN expertise and over 14 years’ experience of working with FCA. We’re delighted to have signed this new contract extending our relationship with such an innovative customer.”
